Got Fur?
For those of us living with pets, this is the beginning period of max shedding. It also is the time for cavity nesting birds such as chickadees to be looking for soft nesting materials. By gathering and placing the fur in select places, you can enjoy watching the birds gather it.
As a chickadee lover, I like to do all I can to help out those little incredible birds. When I first started putting out our pet’s fur for them to use, I secured it on top over our grill cover with masking tape and within a day a chickadee found it.
I then got smarter and started putting the fur in a mesh peanut feeder which I could hang in the overhang by my kitchen window to watch and photograph them. Also the feeder kept the fur from getting wet.
If you don’t have a feeder, just putting the fur tangled in some dense shrubs or branches will work. And put it by a window where you might be likely to see activity.
Between the dog or the cat fur, the chickadees last year seemed to prefer the cat.
